Eating a vegetable-based diet has been shown to benefit health in many ways including enriching gut bacteria diversity, increasing plant vitamins and minerals, and loading up on fiber. However, a strictly vegan or vegetarian plant-based diet could still be missing this essential dementia-fighting nutrient: choline. Choline is an essential building block of cell membranes both…Details

Specializing in helping those that suffer from:
Gardasil and other vaccine damage
Dr. Mark Flannery, DC, FAAIM, DCBCN, DCCN, CNS has helped many patients suffering with Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, vitiligo, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, digestive disorders and other autoimmune, chronic, and neuro-inflammatory conditions, improve their quality of life. He also specializes in helping patients who have had adverse reactions to the Gardasil and other vaccines.
Dr. Flannery lectures as an educator and scientific speaker for Datis Kharrazian, DHSc, DC, MNeuroSci, a pioneer in functional medicine and neurology and author of the book Why Do I Still Have Thyroid Symptoms? and Why Isn’t My Brain Working? Dr. Flannery teaches practitioners around the country the principles of functional medicine, endocrinology, and blood chemistry. He emphasizes to practitioners that they must uncover the underlying physiological dysfunctions causing a patients symptoms and not just supress the symptom itself.
Treating patients nationally, internationally, and in the Los Angeles / Ventura County area
Dr. Flannery works long distance with patients from around the world. His patients are from not only from across the United States, but also China, Spain, Argentina, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Turkey, the Philippines, Canada, Netherlands, Austria, Indonesia and many other countries. What is functional medicine?
Functional medicine focuses on correcting physiological function versus overriding the problem with drugs or surgery. Using science-based lab tests, assessments, and in-office exams, we look at physiology and where the dysfunction lies.
Functional medicine recognizes the body is a highly complex web of interrelated functions. It’s impossible to consider hormone balance without also considering the health of the immune system, or to address brain function without addressing gut health. All these systems act in concert with one another and not as isolated systems. This approach requires an in-depth knowledge of physiology and how the different systems in the body work together.
Going beyond drugs or surgery to address the root cause
Many of our patients have been to numerous doctors and sometimes even the top medical clinics in the country. Some have also made the rounds of various alternative doctors. They’re often told their lab tests are fine and nothing more can be done.
In functional medicine we focus on treating the person not the disease. We don’t look at what drug or which surgery might mask or remove a problem. Nor do we mask symptoms with herbs or the latest nutrient. Instead, we examine a person’s physiology to see where the breakdown has occurred and how we can unwind vicious cycles that perpetuate autoimmune and inflammatory disorders:
Autoimmune disease: Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, multiple sclerosis, Sjorgen’s, vitiligo, etc.
Hormone imbalances: PCOS, female hair loss, low male testosterone, PMS, menopause symptoms, etc.
Chronic health conditions: Joint pain, insomnia, allergies, skin rashes, weight loss issues, IBS, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, etc.
Brain-related: Brain fog, memory loss, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, trouble focusing, learning difficulties, ADHD, ADD, autism spectrum, etc.
Vaccine damage: Gardisil vaccine, other vaccine damage
Functional medicine is not for the person who wants a quick fix to mask a symptom. Our patients are interested in optimal health and are willing to do the work to achieve it. This may mean making changes to your diet or lifestyle, but can result in genuine, lasting corrections to your condition.
Health is not the absence of disease. It is the proper functioning of one’s physiology. Often doctors are looking so hard for the disease they miss the lack of function.

Those who have Hashimoto’s hypothyroidism, or another autoimmune condition, have most likely learned to manage their condition on their own. Most conventional medical doctors either do not test for or do not know how to adequately treat Hashimoto’s, an autoimmune disease that attacks and damages the thyroid gland, causing weight gain, hair loss, fatigue, depression,…Details
Mixed food recommendations from American Diabetes Association promote low carb while still promoting diabetes
While it will take the American Diabetes Association (ADA) a couple of decades to catch up to functional medicine, their new recommendations are finally advising people with diabetes to eat a lower carbohydrate diet. Functional medicine practitioners have long known the damaging effects of high carb consumption not only on blood sugar, but also on chronic…Details
